In a major push towards clean and sustainable mobility, the Government of Telangana has announced a 20% discount on electric vehicles (EVs) for its employees under the new 2026 EV policy.

The initiative is expected to benefit over 5 lakh government employees, making it one of the largest EV incentive programs in India aimed at a specific workforce group.

Big Savings for Employees

Under this scheme, eligible employees can avail a direct discount of up to 20% on the purchase of new electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers. These discounts have been negotiated directly with manufacturers, ensuring lower upfront costs.

In addition, the government is offering:

  • 100% exemption on road tax
  • Full waiver of registration fees

Combined, these benefits could help families save up to ₹4 lakh, depending on the vehicle chosen.

Strong Industry Support

Several major EV makers have partnered with the state to support the initiative. These include Mahindra Electric, Ola Electric, Ather Energy, and Gravton Motors. Talks are also ongoing with Tata Motors to expand the options available.

Focus on Green Mobility

The policy is part of Telangana’s broader plan to reduce dependence on petrol and diesel vehicles and promote eco-friendly transportation. The government is also working towards electrifying its own vehicle fleet in key urban areas by mid-2026.

A Step Ahead for India

With this move, Telangana becomes one of the first states in India to offer such large-scale, direct EV discounts for government employees. The initiative is expected to not only boost EV adoption but also encourage other states to introduce similar policies.

Overall, this scheme makes owning an electric vehicle more affordable and practical, bringing Telangana closer to a cleaner and greener future.
