The recently launched new-generation Tata Sierra may not remain a five-seater for long. Early reports suggest that Tata Motors is evaluating a stretched, three-row version of the SUV—hinting at a possible 7-seater Sierra positioned below the flagship Safari.
Built on the New ARGOS Platform
The latest Sierra marks the debut of Tata’s All-terrain Ready Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable Architecture (ARGOS). This platform has been engineered to support:
- Multiple body styles
- Different powertrain types (petrol, diesel, EV in the future)
- Upcoming advanced drivetrain configurations, including AWD
Its modular nature gives Tata the flexibility to develop new variants without starting from scratch—making a long-wheelbase Sierra technically feasible.
7-Seater Sierra Under Evaluation
According to industry reports, Tata Motors is already studying the possibility of:
- A stretched wheelbase
- Three-row seating layout
- A cabin configuration focused on family buyers and chauffeur-driven users

If approved, the 7-seater Sierra would sit strategically below the Safari, offering a more lifestyle-oriented, rugged alternative while avoiding product overlap within Tata’s SUV lineup.
Market-Driven Decision
Tata has made it clear that the three-row Sierra will only move forward if:
- The 5-seater Sierra receives strong market acceptance
- There is clear demand for an additional mid-size, three-row SUV
- The new variant can deliver incremental volumes rather than cannibalising Harrier or Safari sales
In short, customer response will determine whether the model expands into a family-focused segment.
Current Launch Plan
For now, the Sierra will:
- Be offered only as a 5-seater
- Roll out with multiple powertrains
- Target a lifestyle, adventure and premium urban audience
Tata has already confirmed that an AWD variant will arrive in 2027, making the Sierra the first among Tata’s new-generation models to receive an all-wheel-drive system.
What a 7-Seater Sierra Could Mean
A three-row Sierra could:
- Strengthen Tata’s presence below the Safari
- Appeal to premium family SUV buyers
- Leverage the Sierra’s iconic design and rugged positioning
- Add a lifestyle-oriented alternative in the emerging 7-seat mid-size segment
If it materialises, it may become one of Tata’s most versatile nameplates in years.
