Maruti Grand Vitara Recalled Over Faulty Fuel Level Indicator

November 17, 2025

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has announced a voluntary recall affecting 39,506 units of the Grand Vitara, manufactured between December 9, 2024, and April 29, 2025. The recall has been initiated to address a potential issue with the fuel level indicator and warning light in the SUV’s instrument cluster.

Why Has Maruti Recalled the Grand Vitara?

According to the automaker, a defective component within the speedometer assembly may cause the fuel gauge to display inaccurate readings. This could potentially mislead the driver regarding the remaining fuel level and cause unexpected vehicle shutdowns if the tank runs empty without warning.

While no accidents or safety incidents have been reported so far, Maruti Suzuki has undertaken the recall proactively to maintain high standards of safety, reliability, and customer confidence.

How the Recall Will Be Conducted

Owners of the affected Grand Vitara units will be contacted directly by Maruti Suzuki’s authorized Nexa dealer workshops. Customers will be asked to bring their vehicles in for inspection, where technicians will verify the issue.

If required, the faulty speedometer component will be replaced free of cost, irrespective of the vehicle’s warranty status.

Customers can also visit the official Maruti Suzuki website or contact their nearest Nexa service center to check if their vehicle’s VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) falls under the recall list.

Part of Maruti Suzuki’s Quality Commitment

Maruti Suzuki emphasized that the recall is part of its continuous focus on quality and customer safety.
The company stated:

“This voluntary recall is a precautionary step to ensure our customers’ complete peace of mind. Our aim is to uphold the highest levels of safety, reliability, and transparency in our vehicles.”

The Grand Vitara is manufactured at Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s Bidadi plant in Karnataka and retailed through Maruti’s premium Nexa network.

Grand Vitara Sales Performance

Since its launch, the Grand Vitara has been a strong performer in the mid-size SUV segment, consistently ranking among the top sellers in its category. Over the last six months, the SUV has delivered steady four-figure monthly sales, driven by its mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid variants, fuel efficiency, and Maruti’s extensive service network.

Even with increasing competition, the Grand Vitara has maintained healthy traction, accounting for a significant share of Maruti’s SUV portfolio.

Market Outlook – Challenges Ahead

While this recall is unlikely to affect the Grand Vitara’s long-term image, the mid-size SUV segment is heating up with several new entrants and upcoming updates, including:

  • New Tata Sierra (launching soon)
  • Next-gen Renault Duster
  • Nissan Tekton
  • Second-gen Kia Seltos (global debut on December 10, 2025)

Additionally, Maruti’s own Victoris SUV — positioned slightly below the Grand Vitara — has quickly emerged as an internal rival, offering fresh styling, advanced features, and a more competitive price tag.

These developments could influence buyer preference in the months ahead, especially as customers look for models with modern tech, ADAS safety systems, and hybrid powertrains.
