Mahindra is steadily building excitement around its upcoming flagship electric SUV, the XEV 9S, ahead of its India debut on 27 November. A newly released teaser confirms a major feature upgrade aimed at elevating rear-seat comfort — the Power Boss Mode.
This feature, previously seen in a manual form on the XUV700, has now evolved into a fully powered system, reinforcing Mahindra’s push toward premium in-cabin technology for its new-generation electric SUVs.
Power Boss Mode: A Big Leap in Passenger Comfort
The Power Boss system allows the second-row left passenger to electrically control the front passenger seat, enabling a lounge-like seating experience. The teaser reveals a dedicated switch panel placed on the second-row armrest, allowing occupants to:
- Recline the front passenger backrest
- Slide and adjust the front seat base
- Maximise legroom for the second-row occupant
- Create a more luxurious chauffeur-driven setup
This is a significant advancement over the XUV700’s manual Boss Mode, which required physical effort and had limited range of adjustment. The powered setup brings the XEV 9S closer to features typically seen in high-end luxury SUVs.
The teaser video further highlights premium touches such as:
- A large panoramic sunroof
- Plush beige cabin upholstery
- Ventilated front seats, hinting at climate-controlled comfort
These enhancements indicate that Mahindra is focusing not just on tech, but also on elevated cabin ambience and long-distance comfort.

Mahindra’s First-Ever Three-Row Born-Electric SUV
The XEV 9S is an extremely significant product for Mahindra. It becomes the brand’s first three-row electric SUV built from the ground up, representing the third evolutionary step in Mahindra’s electric SUV lineage:
- XUV.e8 – The original concept preview
- XEV 7e – The intermediate, near-production iteration
- XEV 9S – The final, production-ready three-row model
The SUV is based on Mahindra’s advanced INGLO modular skateboard platform, which also underpins the BE6 and XEV 9e — both launched last year. The platform supports:
- High-voltage battery architecture
- Long wheelbase for improved cabin space
- Flexible powertrain layouts
- Level 2+ ADAS capabilities
- Best-in-class crash safety targets
The XEV 9S is expected to maximise these strengths with improved interior space, better ride quality, and advanced software-driven features.
Expected Powertrain: Borrowed from the XEV 9e
While Mahindra hasn’t officially revealed mechanical specifications yet, the XEV 9S is expected to borrow powertrains from the XEV 9e, including:
- A 282hp rear-wheel-drive single-motor setup
- A long-range LFP battery pack with fast-charging support
- A focus on efficiency, refinement, and long-distance comfort
The 9S may also offer drive modes, regenerative braking levels, and other EV-specific enhancements seen in the INGLO lineup.

Expected Pricing and Launch Strategy
Mahindra is likely to position the XEV 9S above the XEV 9e, placing it within the ₹21–30 lakh bracket. However, given Mahindra’s past tactics — including aggressive introductory pricing for models like the XUV700 and Scorpio-N — the company may again reveal a highly competitive launch price for the entry variants.
Variant-wise price announcements may follow later, allowing Mahindra to create early hype and lock in bookings.
What the XEV 9S Means for Mahindra
The XEV 9S could become a cornerstone product for Mahindra’s EV ambitions. It is the company’s most premium electric SUV to date, combining:
- A born-electric INGLO architecture
- A feature-rich, tech-forward interior
- Strong performance expectations
- Three-row practicality
- Luxury-inspired seating technology like the Power Boss Mode
With rivals like the Tata Harrier EV and BYD eMAX 7 also vying for space in the growing electric SUV market, the XEV 9S will play a key role in strengthening Mahindra’s presence in the EV era.
