Mahindra is gearing up to electrify one of its most iconic SUVs, and the excitement is already building. The Mahindra Thar.e, the all-electric version of the popular off-roader, is expected to make its debut in 2026, blending the rugged DNA of the Thar with modern electric vehicle technology. For enthusiasts who love adventure but are curious about going electric, this could be a game-changer.

The Thar.e is being developed on Mahindra’s new INGLO-P1 electric platform, which has been designed specifically to support advanced EV architectures. One of the biggest highlights is the expected dual-motor setup with all-wheel drive, ensuring the electric Thar doesn’t lose its off-road credentials. With instant torque delivery from electric motors, the Thar.e could actually feel even more capable on challenging terrain than its petrol and diesel siblings.

Powering the SUV is likely to be a large battery pack of around 75kWh, delivering a claimed range of 400 to 500 km on a single charge. This would make the Thar.e suitable not just for trail adventures but also for regular highway and city use. Mahindra is expected to focus on durability and performance rather than gimmicks, keeping the Thar’s go-anywhere character intact.

In terms of design, the Thar.e is expected to carry a futuristic yet boxy look, staying true to the Thar’s iconic silhouette while adding modern EV elements. High ground clearance, short overhangs, and rugged proportions are likely to remain. Inside, the cabin is expected to adopt a minimalistic layout, with large digital screens and a clean dashboard design. A sunroof is unlikely, reinforcing the brand’s focus on practicality and off-road usability over luxury add-ons.

Mahindra may offer the Thar.e in both 3-door and 5-door configurations, widening its appeal to lifestyle buyers as well as families. Pricing is expected to fall in the ₹20–25 lakh range, positioning it as a premium electric SUV with serious off-road intent.

With the Thar.e, Mahindra isn’t just adding another EV to its lineup — it’s attempting to redefine what an electric SUV can be in India. If the final production version stays true to its promise, the electric Thar could set a new benchmark for rugged EVs when it arrives in 2026.
