Mahindra EVs Now Make Up 7.5% of Total Sales – Massive Growth Driven by BE 6 & XEV 9e

Mahindra is rapidly accelerating its electric vehicle transition, with EVs now contributing 7.5 percent of its total sales from January to October 2025. This marks a dramatic jump from just 1 percent during the same period last year, when the XUV400 was the company’s only EV on sale. With the addition of the BE 6 and XEV 9e, Mahindra’s electric portfolio has expanded significantly — and the upcoming XEV 9S, set to debut on November 27, will further strengthen this momentum.

This growth puts Mahindra firmly on the path toward achieving its goal of 15–25 percent EV sales share by 2027, a target tied closely to upcoming CAFE III emission compliance norms.

Mahindra’s EV Sales Surge: Key Highlights

  • EV share rises from 1% (2024) to 7.5% (2025)
  • 38,464 EVs sold between January and October 2025
  • BE 6 and XEV 9e contribute 7% of overall Mahindra sales
  • October 2025 EV retail sales: 3,911 units
  • Mahindra ranked 3rd in EV retail sales after Tata Motors and JSW MG Motor

The significant increase in EV penetration highlights the rising acceptance of Mahindra’s born-electric SUVs, especially in urban and semi-urban markets.

BE 6 and XEV 9e: The New Growth Engines

The BE 6 and XEV 9e — built on Mahindra’s new electric-first architecture — have been the primary catalysts behind this sales jump. Together, they accounted for 7 percent of Mahindra’s total sales, showing strong early adoption.

This also helped Mahindra expand its EV portfolio beyond the ageing XUV400 and strengthen its compliance with fleet emission norms.

Mahindra EV Sales Performance (Jan–Oct 2025)

BE 6 & XEV 9e36,1047.0%
XUV4002,3600.5%
Total EVs38,4647.5%

This strong EV traction comes at a time when Mahindra’s ICE SUVs — Scorpio N, Thar, Bolero, and XUV700 — continue to dominate the mainstream SUV segments.

CAFE III Compliance: Mahindra Is Well Positioned

Mahindra met its CAFE II norms in FY2023–24 with just one EV in its lineup. Now, with multiple EVs either launched or ready for debut, the company is strategically preparing for CAFE III regulations that take effect in April 2027.

Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director & CEO (Automotive & Farm Businesses), told Autocar Professional that Mahindra aims for 15–25 percent EV sales share by 2027 — a target that aligns with upcoming regulatory requirements.

The upcoming XEV 9S, along with future BE-range SUVs, will be crucial in widening the brand’s EV portfolio and offering buyers more electric alternatives in the mainstream and premium SUV space.

Mahindra’s Growing EV Strength in India

Mahindra’s combination of powerful EV SUVs, aggressive launch timelines and rising public acceptance is transforming its EV presence. With demand increasing and segment rivals expanding their EV offerings, Mahindra is positioning itself as a dominant player in India’s rapidly evolving electric SUV market.
