Kia Syros EV Spied Testing in Korea, India Launch Confirmed for 2026

Kia’s Next Affordable Electric SUV Incoming

After the Carens Clavis EV, Kia is preparing to launch its next mass-market electric model — the Syros EV. The SUV has now been spotted testing in Korea, with additional prototypes seen on Indian roads.

Fresh images from Autospy reveal the Syros EV plugged into a DC fast charger, hinting at its final design and charging layout. The model is expected to debut in India by mid-2026, following its global tests.

Design: Familiar Yet Evolving

Despite heavy camouflage, the tall, upright stance and distinct profile clearly identify the SUV as the Syros. The EV appears to retain much of the ICE Syros’s design, including its body shape, panel lines, and wheels.

At the rear, subtle tweaks — particularly around the bumper and lighting setup — suggest mild EV-specific styling. However, many enthusiasts are hoping Kia introduces a fresh look to better differentiate the electric version.

Charging and Powertrain Details

Spy shots confirm the charging port sits on the left front fender, similar to premium EVs like the Porsche Taycan. While dual ports are unlikely at this price point, a single-port setup should suffice for the Syros EV’s segment.

Reports suggest Kia will offer two battery pack options using NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) chemistry:

  • 42 kWh: 300–350 km range
  • 49 kWh: Up to 370 km range

Both will support DC fast charging, enabling a 10–80% charge in about 30 minutes. Power is expected to be delivered to the front wheels (FWD).

Design Will Decide Its Fate

The ICE Syros, positioned between the Sonet and Seltos, had a strong start with 25,000 units sold in five months. But its polarizing design limited long-term success.

For the Syros EV, a cleaner, more balanced design could prove crucial. A distinct EV identity might help it attract mainstream buyers looking for affordable electric SUVs.

Launch Timeline and Rivals

The Kia Syros EV is expected to launch in India by mid-2026, with prices ranging between ₹14–20 lakh (ex-showroom).

Its main competitors will include:

  • Tata Nexon EV
  • Tata Punch EV
  • MG Windsor EV
  • Mahindra XUV400

Verdict

With practical range, fast-charging capability, and accessible pricing, the Kia Syros EV could become a strong contender in India’s growing EV market. If Kia refines the styling and keeps costs in check, this could be one of the brand’s most important electric launches yet.

Affordable. Practical. Promising — the Kia Syros EV could electrify the mainstream SUV segment
