The Kia Carens Clavis has entered the CarWale fleet for real-world evaluation, and one of the first assessments conducted was its fuel-efficiency test. The model on test was the diesel-manual variant — a popular choice among buyers seeking long-distance capability and strong running efficiency. Kia claims an ARAI-certified mileage of 19.54kmpl for this configuration.
Pricing and Powertrain
The diesel range for the Carens Clavis starts at Rs. 13 lakh, making it one of the more accessible diesel MPVs in the segment. The variant we tested — the HTX diesel MT — is priced at Rs. 18.78 lakh (ex-showroom).
Under the hood is a proven 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, producing 114bhp and 250Nm of torque. This engine-transmission combination is shared with several Kia and Hyundai models and is well-regarded for its balance of refinement and efficiency.
Real-World Mileage Performance
In mixed driving conditions, the Carens Clavis delivered the following fuel-economy results during our tests:
- City Efficiency: 16.28kmpl
Despite traffic and frequent gear shifts, the MPV maintained impressive fuel discipline. - Highway Efficiency: 23.18kmpl
On open roads, the Clavis showcased its true potential, aided by tall gearing and relaxed cruising behaviour. - Combined Mileage: 18.01kmpl
This figure is very close to Kia’s official claim and highlights the diesel engine’s strength in real-world usage.

Why the Diesel-MT Still Makes Sense
The Carens Clavis diesel manual continues to appeal to buyers who:
- Travel long distances frequently
- Prefer lower running costs
- Value strong torque delivery for full-load performance
- Want a practical MPV with highway-friendly efficiency
The Clavis further benefits from its spacious cabin, improved build quality, and Kia’s extensive features list, making it a well-rounded family MPV.
