New Renault Duster Tested Video Review and Picture Gallery

Renault is preparing for a major comeback in India with the all-new 2025 Renault Duster, and our exclusive first-drive impressions suggest it has strong potential ahead of its January 2026 launch.

A nameplate adored for its toughness and everyday practicality, the Duster returns with a complete transformation. Built on the CMF-B platform—shared with global models like the Clio and Nissan Juke—the new Duster still maintains a compact footprint despite looking more muscular. It’s only 9mm wider and 2mm longer than the outgoing version.

Refinement and Platform Updates

The switch to the CMF-B architecture brings major improvements in NVH levels. Renault has clearly worked on reducing vibrations and road noise, and the difference is noticeable. The new Duster feels smoother and more composed while retaining its trademark rugged feel.

Powertrain Options

Full Hybrid (International)

  • 1.6-litre petrol engine (140bhp)
  • Paired with two electric motors
  • Backed by a 1.2kWh battery

One motor drives the wheels, while the second functions as a starter-generator.

1.2-litre Mild Hybrid (Likely for India)

  • 128bhp turbo-petrol mild hybrid
  • Expected to be the India-spec engine due to its efficiency, affordability, and easier localisation.

Interior: Upgraded but Not Overdone

Step inside and the new Duster immediately feels more spacious and better built. Materials are more durable, fit-and-finish is cleaner, and the layout remains functional.

The UK-spec model tested includes:

  • Touchscreen infotainment system
  • 360-degree camera
  • ADAS suite
  • Improved boot space

However, some premium features common in rivals are missing. There’s no sunroof, and the driver’s seat is manually adjustable.

On-Road Experience

True to its legacy, the new Duster still drives like a Duster—in the best way. The suspension is well-tuned and absorbs rough surfaces confidently, maintaining that go-anywhere personality.

The hybrid system starts in EV mode and stays electric at low speeds. Throttle response is quick, making city driving smooth and effortless. Fuel economy is a highlight, delivering around 53mpg (~19 kmpl) in testing.

Some downsides remain:

  • The petrol engine gets noisy at cold starts
  • EV–petrol transitions can feel slightly abrupt
  • Some vibrations still filter in

Verdict

The 2025 Renault Duster blends rugged capability, improved refinement, and modern features without losing its core identity. It feels tougher, quieter, more spacious, and more efficient than before.

For Renault India, the Duster is a crucial comeback model, expected to play a central role in rebuilding its SUV lineup. If priced competitively—likely between ₹10 lakh and ₹16 lakh—the new Duster could become one of the strongest contenders in its segment once again.
