New Renault Duster India Launch: Platform, Engine, Features & Expectations

The Renault Duster is set to make its long-awaited return to India in January 2026, and expectations are sky-high. The original Duster built a cult following for its ruggedness, simplicity, and dependable diesel performance. Now that we’ve already driven the international-spec 2025 Duster (click here for the full review), we have a clear idea of what the India-spec Duster could bring to the table. Here’s everything to expect.

Platform and Dimensions

The new Duster transitions to Renault’s CMF-B platform, a far more modern and refined architecture than its predecessor. Despite looking larger in photos, the actual dimensional changes are minimal — suggesting the India-spec model will maintain a compact, city-friendly footprint. This is especially important for competitive pricing and positioning in the midsize SUV segment.

The CMF-B platform also focuses heavily on reducing noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH). While the UK-spec car allows a bit of engine and road noise to seep in, the overall refinement is a huge upgrade over the previous-gen Duster. We expect the India-spec version to deliver a similar balance of comfort and toughness.

Engine and Hybrid Options

While Europe gets a 1.6-litre full-hybrid system with two electric motors and a 1.2kWh battery, India is far more likely to receive the 1.2-litre mild-hybrid turbo-petrol producing 128bhp. This powertrain is easier to localise, cost-efficient, and better aligned with Renault India’s service ecosystem.

The full-hybrid setup is unlikely for launch due to pricing constraints, though Renault may consider introducing it later depending on market demand and future regulations.

Expect the India-spec Duster to deliver:

  • Strong low-end and mid-range performance
  • Noticeably better fuel efficiency than the old petrol model
  • Smoother city drivability, thanks to mild-hybrid assistance

Interior and Features

The UK-spec model provides strong clues about what Renault will equip for India. The new Duster will feature:

  • A modern touchscreen infotainment system
  • ADAS safety features (variant-dependent)
  • Surround-view cameras
  • A more spacious cabin, despite near-identical dimensions
  • A larger boot
  • Improved practicality and cabin ergonomics

However, it may not be as feature-loaded as rivals like the Hyundai Creta or Kia Seltos, especially when it comes to luxury-oriented equipment such as powered seats or panoramic sunroofs.

Ride, Handling & Driving Feel

The Duster’s biggest strength has always been its ability to absorb rough roads with ease — and the 2025 model carries that DNA forward. Expect the India-spec Duster to be:

  • More refined and quieter than before
  • Stable and planted on highways
  • Extremely capable on bad roads, just like the original

The driving character will likely remain rugged yet reassuring, which has always been central to the Duster’s appeal.

Positioning in India

If Renault brings the 2025 Duster to India with its:

  • Improved refinement
  • Rugged suspension tuning
  • Mild-hybrid turbo-petrol engine
  • Practical interior
  • Strong feature set at the right price

…then the Duster could become one of the most important Renault products in India in years. The formula remains familiar, but the updates make it modern enough to compete in today’s crowded midsize SUV segment.
