Toyota has officially unveiled the ninth-generation Hilux at a global preview event held in Thailand, marking a major milestone for the brand’s iconic pickup. The all-new Hilux not only features a bold new design and upgraded interiors, but also introduces a fully electric powertrain for the first time in the model’s history—making it Toyota’s first body-on-frame EV to enter production.
Bolder Design, Modern Appeal
The new Hilux has undergone a complete exterior redesign, reflecting Toyota’s latest design philosophy seen in its global SUV and truck lineup. The front end gets a more muscular stance, highlighted by a large hexagonal grille, sleeker LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs, and a more upright bonnet that enhances its rugged appeal. The profile now features sharper character lines and chunkier wheel arches, while the rear end gets new LED tail-lamps and a cleaner tailgate design with “HILUX” embossed across it.
Toyota has also improved the truck’s aerodynamics with subtle design tweaks, such as an optimized front bumper and air curtains around the wheel arches. Depending on the variant, customers can expect new alloy wheel designs ranging from 17 to 20 inches.

Completely Revamped Interiors
Step inside, and the new Hilux feels more premium and tech-focused than ever. The cabin layout has been redesigned with a new floating 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and soft-touch materials across key touchpoints. Toyota has equipped the pickup with connected car tech, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, and ventilated front seats. Higher trims are expected to include a premium JBL sound system, dual-zone climate control, and ambient lighting for a more upmarket experience.
Powertrain Options: Diesel and Electric
Under the hood, Toyota continues to offer tried-and-tested diesel powertrains, including a reworked 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine that delivers improved torque and fuel efficiency. The engine will be paired with both manual and automatic transmissions, and offered in both 2WD and 4WD configurations.
However, the biggest highlight is the introduction of a fully electric Hilux EV, built on a strengthened version of Toyota’s IMV platform. While detailed power figures haven’t been disclosed yet, Toyota has confirmed that the electric variant will offer performance comparable to the diesel version, along with a driving range of around 400–450 km (WLTP). The EV will also support fast charging, enabling 80% charge in under an hour.
Off-Road Capability Intact
Despite the shift to electrification, Toyota insists that the Hilux’s legendary toughness remains intact. The new chassis structure is lighter yet stronger, enhancing ride comfort and off-road performance. The truck continues to feature selectable 4WD modes, a locking rear differential, hill descent control, and a terrain management system—ensuring it’s as capable in the wild as ever.

Safety and ADAS Features
The 2025 Hilux will also come equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, bringing in a suite of advanced driver-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and cross-traffic alert.
Expected Launch and Rivals
The new Hilux will go on sale first in Thailand and other ASEAN markets in early 2026, followed by launches in Australia, South Africa, and select European regions. While Toyota has not confirmed an India launch yet, sources suggest it could arrive by late 2026 or early 2027, competing with models like the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross and Ford Ranger.
With the ninth-gen Hilux, Toyota is clearly blending traditional pickup toughness with next-gen technology and sustainability, setting the stage for a new era of electrified workhorses.
