Tesla has officially launched the 6-seater Model Y Long-Wheelbase (LWB) in India, marking a key step in its effort to attract more buyers in the premium electric SUV space. Priced at ₹61.99 lakh (ex-showroom), this new variant focuses on practicality and comfort, especially for families.

The biggest highlight of the Model Y LWB is its 3-row seating layout. Unlike the standard version, this model comes with a 2+2+2 configuration, offering captain seats in the second row. This setup not only improves comfort but also makes it easier to access the third row, a feature that many Indian buyers prefer in larger SUVs.

Tesla is importing this version from its Shanghai factory, and it comes with a claimed driving range of up to 681 km (WLTP). That figure puts it among the longest-range electric SUVs currently available in India, making it suitable for both city drives and long-distance travel.

The launch comes at a time when Tesla is still trying to find its footing in the Indian market. High import duties — often between 70% and 100% — have pushed prices up, limiting the brand’s reach. As a result, sales have remained modest so far.

With the introduction of the 6-seater Model Y LWB, Tesla is clearly aiming to change that. By offering more space and a family-friendly layout, the company is targeting buyers who might otherwise consider traditional luxury SUVs.

Overall, this new variant adds a practical edge to the Model Y lineup. It combines Tesla’s well-known electric performance with the comfort and flexibility that Indian families value. While pricing remains on the higher side, the added space and features could help Tesla appeal to a broader audience in the country.
