Mahindra Considering 70kWh Battery Pack for BE 6 and XEV 9e

Mahindra is exploring the introduction of a new 70kWh battery pack for its BE 6 and XEV 9e electric SUVs. This battery, which debuted with the XEV 9S in the Pack Two Above variant, may soon be offered on these models as well. The final decision will depend on customer demand, market feedback, and overall sales performance.

If approved, the new 70kWh option will sit neatly between the existing 59kWh and 79kWh packs, creating well-balanced, mid-range variants with improved performance and range—without pushing prices into the top-end territory.

Why the 70kWh Variant Makes Sense

The positioning of the 70kWh pack on the XEV 9S already shows how effectively it fills the gap between lower and higher trims:

  • 59kWh (Pack One Above) — ₹21.95 lakh
  • 70kWh (Pack Two Above) — ₹24.45 lakh
  • 79kWh — ₹25.45 lakh

The 70kWh option bridges the ₹1 lakh difference between the existing battery sizes, giving customers more flexibility:

  • Better range than the 59kWh
  • Lower price than the 79kWh
  • Balanced performance and usability

It is a strategic upgrade for customers who want more capability without reaching for the flagship variants.

Battery & Motor Specifications

The new 70kWh battery delivers:

  • Claimed range: 600 km
  • Motor output: 241bhp / 380Nm (RWD)

Here’s how it compares with the existing battery packs:

Battery PackClaimed RangeMotor Output
59kWh521 km227bhp / 380Nm
70kWh600 km241bhp / 380Nm
79kWh679 km281bhp / 380Nm

Mahindra is expected to use the exact same strategy for the BE 6 and XEV 9e:

  • Offer mid-spec variants with the 70kWh pack
  • Tune pricing to attract value-focused buyers
  • Maintain clear separation between base and flagship trims

This will allow customers to select a variant that best matches their range and budget requirements.

Pricing Logic for BE 6 & XEV 9e

BE 6

The price jump between the 59kWh and 79kWh versions is currently around ₹2 lakh.
This leaves a clear opportunity for a 70kWh mid-tier variant that can slot perfectly between the two.

XEV 9e

The difference between the equivalent variants is smaller—around ₹1 lakh.
Even so, Mahindra could still introduce the 70kWh pack if it adjusts the feature package to justify the price positioning.

Both models would benefit from having a more balanced middle option, especially for buyers who want extended range without paying for the flagship model.

No Six-Seat XEV 9S for Now

Mahindra has also confirmed that the XEV 9S will not offer a six-seat layout at launch.
However, the company may reconsider if market demand justifies the upgrade.

The current XEV 9S configuration includes:

  • A 60:40 split second row
  • The 40% section features a tip-and-tumble mechanism, making third-row access easier

For now, Mahindra will continue with the seven-seat setup but remains open to future expansion based on feedback.
