ICE Variant to Launch Before EV; Sierra Name Returns After 25 Years
The Tata Sierra is all set to make a grand comeback later this month, and Tata Motors has now teased one of its most awaited features — a panoramic sunroof. Scheduled for a full reveal on 25 November 2025, the upcoming Sierra aims to blend nostalgia with modern design and technology, marking the return of an iconic badge after a quarter of a century.
Panoramic Sunroof Inspired by the Original Sierra
In a clever nod to the original model’s distinctive glasshouse design, the new Tata Sierra will feature a double-pane panoramic sunroof accompanied by large side windows. This setup evokes the same sense of spaciousness and light that made the original SUV such a memorable sight on Indian roads in the 1990s.
Tata Motors says the new Sierra’s glass-heavy upper section will help “put the iconic in an icon,” by maintaining the legacy of the first-generation Sierra, which was known for its unique three-door layout and glass rear section.

Modern Interiors with Premium Features
Images from the latest teaser reveal a premium ivory white interior complemented by black inserts, projecting a bright, airy, and upscale feel.
Key interior highlights include:
- Digital instrument cluster
- Digital IRVM (inside rear-view mirror)
- Fittings for second-row sunblinds
- Dual-tone dashboard with soft-touch materials
Feature-wise, the SUV is expected to offer equipment levels similar to the Tata Curvv, which means the Sierra could come with features like wireless smartphone connectivity, connected car tech, ambient lighting, ventilated seats, and possibly ADAS-level safety functions.
Powertrain Details: Tata’s 1.5-Litre GDi Turbo Petrol Engine
The Tata Sierra ICE version will reportedly debut the company’s new 1.5-litre GDi turbo-petrol engine, which will also power the updated Harrier and Safari in the future.
This engine is expected to produce 168bhp and 280Nm of torque and will be paired with six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmission options. The ICE-powered Sierra will launch first, followed by the electric version (EV) in early 2026, as part of Tata’s growing EV portfolio.Return of an Icon: 25 Years in the Making
The Tata Sierra nameplate first appeared in 1991 and remained on sale until 2003, making it Tata’s first-ever SUV and a pioneer in India’s lifestyle vehicle category. Known for its distinctive design and robust build, the original Sierra became a cult favorite despite its limited production numbers.
After nearly 25 years, the Sierra is making a return — this time as a modern, five-door SUV based on Tata’s Gen 2 EV architecture. The version teased for the Indian market is an evolution of the Sierra concept showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo, and later refined in the 2023 and 2025 Auto and Bharat Mobility Expos.

Rivals and Market Positioning
When launched, the Tata Sierra will compete in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment against established players such as:
- Hyundai Creta
- Kia Seltos
- Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
- Maruti Suzuki Victoris (upcoming)
- Honda Elevate
- MG Astor
Given Tata’s recent design language seen in the Harrier, Safari, and Curvv, the Sierra is expected to stand out with a distinctive style and strong emphasis on build quality, technology, and safety.
What to Expect Next
With the Tata Sierra’s 25 November 2025 reveal just weeks away, more details about its variants, features, and pricing are expected to emerge soon. The SUV’s combination of retro-inspired design, modern technology, and new powertrains makes it one of Tata’s most anticipated launches in years.
Stay tuned for the official debut, where Tata Motors will likely unveil both ICE and EV prototypes, setting the stage for one of the most important SUV comebacks in India’s automotive history.
