Mahindra XEV 9S Electric SUV Launched: Key Dates, Variants, Prices & Booking Timeline

Mahindra is preparing for a significant expansion of its electric vehicle manufacturing capacity as it gears up for the expected surge in demand driven by its latest launch, the XEV 9s. Priced competitively at Rs. 19.45 lakh, the XEV 9s has already generated strong interest, with official bookings scheduled to begin on 14 January.

At present, Mahindra produces around 5,000 units per month of its existing BEVs — the XEV 9e and the BE 6 — at its dedicated EV facilities. With the arrival of the XEV 9s, the company plans to increase production by an additional 3,000 units monthly by the end of FY26. This will effectively take its production capability to nearly one lakh EVs per year, with the flexibility to scale up to two lakh vehicles annually if required. This expansion clearly signals Mahindra’s confidence in the growing electric SUV segment and its strategy to stay ahead of the demand curve.

Mahindra expects the XEV 9s to quickly become its new volume seller. Unlike the coupe-styled XEV 9e, the 9s has a more traditional SUV appearance, giving it a wider appeal among Indian buyers, especially in the northern regions where such designs dominate preferences. The company noted that the XEV 9e already accounts for nearly 60 percent of its EV sales, primarily driven by strong demand from southern India. With the XEV 9s entering the portfolio, Mahindra believes it can now tap into unexplored markets more effectively.

The XEV 9s holds special significance as Mahindra’s first-ever three-row electric SUV. It is positioned as the electric equivalent of the XUV700 and is being offered in four trims with three battery and motor combinations. The model also previews the kind of updates and technological advancements that are likely to trickle down to the XUV700 lineup in early 2026. With six exterior colour options and a feature-rich cabin, the XEV 9s aims to set a new benchmark for practicality and premium appeal in the EV space.

As Mahindra intensifies efforts to scale its EV operations, the XEV 9s is expected to play a pivotal role in expanding the company’s footprint in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle segment.
