Tata Sierra EV RWD and AWD Launching in 2026 – Full Details Explained

November 29, 2025

Tata Motors has confirmed that the much-anticipated Tata Sierra EV will launch in 2026, and unlike the ICE-powered Sierra that currently comes only as a front-wheel-drive model, the electric version will debut with both RWD and AWD configurations right from day one. This positions the Sierra EV as one of Tata’s most advanced offerings, leveraging the company’s next-generation EV platform and production strategy.

The Sierra EV is built on Tata’s acti.ev+ architecture, a multi-layered skateboard EV platform engineered to support high-performance electric drivetrains, faster charging, improved battery packaging and a full suite of ADAS features. This is the same advanced platform underpinning the flagship Harrier EV, which also offers RWD and AWD variants. Tata’s intentions for the Sierra EV are clear—this will be a premium, future-ready electric SUV placed between the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV.

Production for the Sierra EV will take place at Tata’s Sanand plant, which the company acquired from Ford India in 2023. The facility currently has an annual capacity of around 3 lakh units, scalable to 4.2 lakh units, and Tata is expected to increase utilisation further once Sierra ICE volumes rise. The plant will manufacture both the ICE and EV versions of the Sierra, in the same way Tata handles the production of the Nexon and Curvv families. This flexibility is expected to streamline manufacturing, boost localisation and help Tata scale EV volumes to meet projected demand.

While Tata has not revealed the exact battery specifications for the Sierra EV, strong hints point toward a two-battery lineup similar to the Curvv EV and Harrier EV. The SUV may receive the Curvv EV’s 55kWh battery pack, paired with a 167hp motor, and the Harrier EV’s 65kWh battery pack that currently powers a 238hp rear-mounted motor. The expected RWD and AWD setups further suggest that Tata is targeting customers who want both efficiency and all-terrain capability—especially as the Sierra EV is intended to rival the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara.

With the ICE-based Sierra already launched at an introductory price of ₹11.49 lakh, pricing for the Sierra EV is expected to fall between the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV ranges. This places it strategically within a fast-growing electric SUV segment, where Tata already enjoys a strong leadership position.
